Dharma and Punya: Buddhist Ritual Art of Nepal

Project Investigator: Jinah Kim, George P. Bickford Professor of Indian and South Asian Art and Professor of South Asian Studies

Dr. Jinah Kim used IIIF and Mirador in “Dharma and Punya: Buddhist Ritual Art of Nepal,” a major exhibition running 9/5/2019 to 12/14/2019 which she co-curated with Dr. Todd Lewis (College of the Holy Cross). “Dharma and Punya” was funded through a $100,000 National Endowment for the Humanities grant. The exhibit “displays numerous historic objects of Buddhist devotion from major art institutions and private collectors.” Dr. Kim used IIIF to annotate several large manuscripts and a narrative scroll, “Scenes from the Svayambhupurana Bilampu,” held by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. DARTH customized a Mirador 3 exhibit view to highlight the annotations, and these items were installed alongside the physical objects in the exhibit.
